CHAMBER TALK: New year, save a life: Blood drive at Rolling Hills Jan. 4

Wednesday, January 2, 2008 2:35 PM PST

Coy Smith
Novato Chamber of Commerce CEO

Welcome to the New Year! It’s hard to believe an entire year has passed and it’s time to start planning summer events already! But, the first of many Art and Wine committee meetings is starting soon. If you’re interested in volunteering on the committee or at the festival, let me know.

To kick off the New Year and give back to the community, Meridian Sports Clubs — Rolling Hills Club is sponsoring a blood drive with Blood Centers of the Pacific, on Friday, Jan.4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All participants receive a free movie ticket and club guest pass. Please sign up in advance by calling Jessica Hotchkiss at (415) 897-2185, ext. 9517.

We want to welcome our incoming board members, Gary Joseph of Novato Youth Center and Mike DiGiorgio of Avalar Real Estate. They will be sworn in at the Installation of Officers and Awards Ceremony on Friday, Jan. 11. We will also announce the 2007 Small and Large Businesses of the Year, so stand by for that exciting news in a future column.

Last week I mentioned a couple festive events at Chez Pierre! (Formerly Peter’s Restaurant and many long-time Novatans may remember back when it was Denny’s .) Well, this elegant restaurant has transformed significantly and there is so much more to say about it that I wanted to include more about the place in this edition. After 20 years of preparing delicious meals at his restaurant in France, located between Paris and Versailles, Chez Pierre!’s owner-chef decided to bring a traditional French dining experience to America. It now offers an expanded wine list, new dinner and lunch menus, new cooks and staff, including local chef Francisco Cisneros and more French-speaking waiters. During the day it has a light bistro feel, perfect for business or lunch with friends. At night the lights go down and the candles come out and a finer dining experience awaits. Its 30-seat banquet room has rapidly become quite popular for both private parties and business meetings.

Chez Pierre! is conveniently located at De Long and Redwood Boulevard. It is adjacent to Old Town, Grant Avenue, is a short drive from San Rafael and is at the door of the “Route du Vin” to California’s wine country. A few highlights include daily lunch specials featuring Parisian hot and cold sandwiches, no corkage fee Tuesdays — bring your own bottle. Parlez-vous Français? On Wednesday nights with a fixed menu and wine specials. Wine and cheese plate specials are from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays. Did I mention that reservations are recommended?

Quote of the day:

Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.
